Top Kiawah Island Four holes to watch
5th hole (Champ 207yd Par 3) This is the first short hole. If you're not careful you will be entranced by the view of the Atlantic way off to the left and ahead of you, marshlands in the foreground and birds wheeling above.
Miss the proper part of the green here and you could face a putt of 30yd (27m) on a green shaped like an hourglass.
14th hole (Champ 219yd Par 3) You have reached the far end of the course and now must turn, probably into the wind, to start for home.
From this raised tee the course spreads out before you. It looks magnificent but don't be distracted by this very British looking hole. It is well guarded and if you must miss the green, then miss it short and hope to bump and run a shot up close enough to single putt
15th hole (Champ 421yd Par 4) The landing area for the drive is close to the sea but don't worry, there are plenty of dunes to stop your ball being blown to perdition if you slice it. There’s no room for error with your second to the green.
A large waste bunker is ready to gather almost any inaccurate shot and there is a massive bunker shaped like the open mouth of a whale at the back right of the green, which you can't see. . 18th hole (Champ 439yd Par 4) A challenging enough hole to be decisive in many matches. The drive is straightforward if it's hit long enough but the second shot poses a real problem.
The green is small and set at an awkward angle to the fairway. A tongue of meadow grass juts out before the green while a bunker adds to the fortifications. If you hit and hold the green, you deserve your par. Even downwind, it is no pushover because the putting surface is so small and hard to hold
