Detailed Kiawah Island Hole by hole

Championship tees: 7371yd. Medal tees: 6824yd. Ladies' tees 5357yd, all par 72.

1st hole
(Champ 395yd Medal 375yd Ladies' 306yd Par 4) A gentle opener. You tee off amidst a forested wetland with a prehistoric dune ridge to your left.

2nd hole
(Champ 543yd Medal 528yd Ladies' 419yd Par 5) You must hit the fairway from the tee and play an accurate second shot to stand a chance of getting home in 3.

3rd hole
(Champ 390yd Medal 367yd Ladies' 298yd Par 4) Better to be short of the green than over it and in an unplayable lie.

4th hole
(Champ 453yd Medal 432yd Ladies' 328yd Par 4) Trust your instincts - it really is as straight as it looks. Two good shots will see you home.

5th hole
(Champ 207yd Medal 185yd Ladies' 117yd Par 3) You must finish near the pin on this big green unless you want to have a very long putt.

6th hole
(Champ 455yd Medal 392yd Ladies' 299yd Par 4) At all costs avoid the long waste bunker to the left and short of the green.

7th hole
(Champ 527yd Medal 505yd Ladies' 432yd Par 5) Wetlands to the left are out of bounds and an alligator lurks in a lake to the right.

8th hole
(Champ 197yd Medal 170yd Ladies' 105yd Par 3) You should be able to hit this green - it's one of the biggest on the course.

9th hole
(Champ 464yd Medal 415yd Ladies' 344yd Par 4) Miss-hit your tee shot here and you're dead. The second shot is very difficult too.

10th hole
(Champ 439yd Medal 406yd Ladies' 310yd Par 4) Trouble lurks on both sides of the green, a steep-faced bunker on the right, a waste bunker on the left.

11th hole
(Champ 576yd Medal 562yd Ladies' 440yd Par 5) This may take 4 shots to get up. A long slog.

12th hole
(Champ 466yd Medal 410yd Ladies' 326 Par 4) A drive over water so keep your head down. Water runs all along the right of the hole too.

13th hole
(Champ 404yd Medal 371yd Ladies' 312yd Par 4) Beware three very deep bunkers seeded with sea oats which defend the left of the green.

14th hole
(Champ 219yd Medal 194yd Ladies' 132yd Par 3) Lovely short hole on which you notice the sea for the first time since the 5th at the other end of the course.

15th hole
(Champ 421yd Medal 391yd Ladies' 306yd Par 4) Don't slice from the tee - on a windy day your ball could end in the ocean and be washed up on the 17th at Ballybunion.

16th hole
(Champ 579yd Medal 540yd Ladies' 447yd Par 5) Be conservative with your drive over the lake and take the shortest carry.

17th hole
(Champ 197yd Medal 160yd Ladies' 122yd Par 3) From the elevated tee aim at the left of the green across a lake to keep your ball in play.

18th hole
(Champ 439yd Medal 421yd Ladies' 314yd Par 4) You need a good second to reach the small green but if you hit it too well you'll end up in a difficult bunker.
