Pebble Beach Four holes to watch
7th hole (Champ 107yd Par 3) A little wedge shot does the trick most of the time - as long as your nerves hold up -but pray you hit the green. If you miss, just hope that you're in one of the bunkers around the green, because the Pacific is on three sides. The green is very small and even if you manage to hit it putting is tricky.
Beware of the wind. If it's coming off the sea, your ball can be blown back considerably. The hole needs to be played with a long iron into a really strong wind.
8th hole (Champ 431yd Par 4) With the ocean on the right and 60ft (18m) cliffs at the end of a long tee shot, this hole plays havoc with the slicer. You must hit a blind tee shot on to a plateau, from where you need to carry the ball about 180yd (165m) to clear a huge ravine.
If you're not feeling brave hit your tee shot down the left and play round the dog-leg rather than go for the carry.
9th hole (Champ 464yd Par 4) Beautiful but awesome, this is the terror of Pebble Beach. The fairway slants dangerously from left to right towards the ocean, and bunkers guard the left. Aim your tee shot just right of these bunkers and you are set up for your second.
But it takes two massive blows to reach in 2. To be safe aim up the left as the green is sited very close to the cliffs on the right. Even the pros find it a severe challenge.
10th hole (Champ 426yd Par 4) This is the last of what's generally considered the hardest four hole sequence in golf.
You must stay left because of the cliffs on the right. Aim at the fairway bunker to be safe with your tee shot. If the ball goes into the sand be thankful. It is a far better fate than a watery grave on the right. If you come off with a par here it's a bonus.
