Detailed Short hole snags
Pine Valley's most distinctive holes are the brilliant par 3s. Every one is all carry - whether you must shoot over the wasteland and pot bunkers of the short 10th, or fly 226yd (207m) over water and scrub to find the 5th green. You need steely nerves and an exacting strike.
It's not only the par 3s that provide danger - the 5s are a monstrous challenge too. fjeither par 5 has been reached in 2. You must contend with a 120yd (110m) stretch of dead ground across the fairway - known as Hell's Half Acre - at the 7th, while the 15th is a gruelling 603yd (551m). To add insult to injury the 15th gradually narrows and is uphill at the end.
An undoubtedly tricky nature is not the only difficulty you must overcome. Psychologically the course is a nightmare. Even before a golfer sets foot on the luxuriant turf his mind is awash with tales of woe.
If your game is on song and you're feeling up to the formidable test, Pine Valley can be played well. But win or lose you're presented with one of the most exhilarating challenges of all.
