Briefly dicuss the Turnberry
The Ailsa Course is a true links set hard against the often ferocious Irish Sea on Scotland's Ayrshire coast. With craggy rocks and sweeping dunes, this Open Championship course is spectacularly challenging.
Most links courses run along close to the sea but are separated from the coast by a line of dunes. The golfer is protected from the full vigour of winds off the sea. But Turnberry is a links in the true sense of the word.
From the 4th to the 11th the Ailsa holes hug a shoreline exposed to the full force of the waves and winds. The long sweeping sands of Turnberry Bay suddenly turn into the rugged craggy coastline of the Firth of Clyde.
The air is fresh and invigorating, and the scenery is breathtaking. This is one of the great coastal walks of the British Isles - it would be hard to find a more magnificent setting for a golf course.
